Therapists Who Believe

Re-writing your story should feel exciting, not intimidating.

Sonder Counseling was founded out of the realization that every person carries a story as vivid and complex as our own.

The word Sonder captures a profound truth — that each individual is the main character in their own life, filled with dreams, fears, relationships, and meaning

At Sonder Counseling, we honor those stories. Our licensed therapists provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps you explore your narrative, find healing, and reconnect with yourself and others. Whether you’re managing anxiety, depression, trauma, borderline personality disorder relationship issues, addiction, grief, stress management, low self esteem, communication struggles, or feeling stuck, we can help.

Let’s meet the team!

Amber

Specialties: Trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder, Addiction

Hello! My name is Amber (She/Her)

I am a clinical social worker, black belt, and nature lover.

I value sharing a nonjudgmental, open space with you while you unpack some of the deepest parts of your mind. I want you to trust that you do not have to face pain or fear on your own and know that the person sitting across from you is just as human as you are. I value building a genuine relationship with the people that I work with, filled with honesty, empathy, humor, and openness.

I have experience providing Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to individuals who struggle with emotion dysregulation, behavioral impulsivity, and trauma-related symptoms. I additionally have experience addressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationship issues.

I am looking forward to connecting with you and sharing this journey together!

Ashley

Specialties: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma

Hey, I’m Ashley (She/Her)

Professional counselor, amateur yogi, mom of a high energy toddler, and avid reader (when possible!)

My goal as a counselor is to help you understand and overcome anxiety related to perfectionism, burnout, imposter syndrome, and overall dysregulation from managing the stress of everyday life. I want to empower you to feel more like yourself again. I get especially excited about the neuroscience behind how our brains form patterns and, more importantly, how we can gently change those patterns over time. I believe that understanding the “why” behind your thoughts and behaviors often brings relief, clarity, and hope.

My approach is holistic and practical, recognizing that healing happens not just in the mind, but in the body too. Stress, trauma, and emotions live in your nervous system, so I often incorporate various strategies alongside talk therapy to support deeper, lasting change. My goal is to help you feel more regulated, empowered, and connected to yourself through mind and body work.

Fay

Specialties: Borderline Personality Disorder, Anxiety, Depression

Hi, I’m Fay. (She/Her)

DBT specialist, amateur painter and comedy enthusiast

I believe healing happens best when you pay attention not just to your thoughts and emotions, but also to how your body respond to stress and trauma. My work is focused on helping people feel more grounded, supported, and truly seen. I care deeply about creating a space where you can slow down, build understanding, and develop skills that feel meaningful and sustainable for your life. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is walking alongside people as they reconnect with themselves and move toward the goals that matter most to them.

I’ve spent nearly seven years working as a trained DBT therapist on a comprehensive DBT team. I am also trained  in Prolonged Exposure trauma therapy as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I’m in the final months of my training in bioenergetic therapy, which has shaped the way I think about healing. I’m a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). I love learning ways to move physically (exercise, dance, etc.) but also appreciate finding new ways to tune into my creativity.

Greg

Specialties: Addiction, Anxiety, Depression

Hello! I'm Greg (He/Him)

Counselor, Dad, Admirer of Nature

You may find yourself wondering, “When will things get better?” or “Will I always feel this way?”

I've been working as a professional counselor and addiction specialist for over 30 years- I can support you if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or out of control. I want to help you reclaim your sense of independence, adapt to life’s challenges, and heal from the past. I believe deeply in our capacity for resilience and how shifting our thoughts can improve our lives.

Shaped in the Metropolis of Detroit and finding my place is now in rural Michigan, I value family, nature, animals, and the grounding simplicity of everyday life. These connections inform my approach to therapy- which centers on CBT, practical skill‑building, and strengthening what you are already doing right. My goal is to help you create meaningful change, increase your sense of wellbeing, and build a more satisfying and accepting relationship with yourself and your world.

Hadley

If you are seeing Hadley, you will meet at her office at 1111 Bellevue, Detroit MI 48207.

Specialties: Trauma, Anxiety, Depression

Hi, I’m Hadley (She/Her)

Trauma Informed Clinical Social Worker, plant lover, fiber artist

If you feel stuck in harmful patterns, anxiety, or disconnection from joy, we will explore the ways your body and nervous system hold emotional wounds and process trauma. Using a warm, affirming, and nonjudgmental approach, I will guide you in noticing sensations, emotions, and thoughts as pathways toward healing, nervous system regulation, and lasting change. Together, we work gently to build resilience, self-awareness, and connection to yourself and others.

Currently, I’m training in Bioenergetic Analysis, a somatic therapy that integrates movement, breath, and physical awareness to release tension and support emotional expression. I believe that people already carry deep wisdom within themselves—it just sometimes needs space and support to emerge.

In addition to therapy, I teach somatic expression classes online—if you’re interested, feel free to reach out via email.

Jessica

Specialties: Relationship Issues, Anxiety, Depression

I am the founder of Sonder Counseling, professional counselor, and resident goofball.

There are few things I love more than having those ah-ha! moments with my clients (close second to my fur babies).  My goal is to help empower you to understand how your past has led to unhelpful patterns and thoughts.  I want to help you feel grounded and free to live your life on your own terms, while sharing a giggle along the way.

Along with my training in counseling, I am also a licensed marriage and family therapist. I believe that how we interact with the most important people around us has a huge impact on mental wellness. I like to look at the big picture and create a customized approach to help you tackle your anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and stress!

Susanne

Specialties: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma

Welcome! I’m Susanne.

Counselor, dual master's degree holder, animal lover

Although I always knew I wanted to be a therapist, my path was non-linear. My earlier corporate career allowed me to develop my counseling skills by supporting teams both individually and collectively. Through those years, I realized how common it is to hold the belief that happiness is a future destination—something achieved only once we are "fixed" or have reached specific milestones in our careers, relationships, or appearance.

My goal as your therapist is to create a safe, supportive space for you. I provide a container of listening, possibility, unconditional acceptance, and celebration as you navigate your unique journey. I incorporate various therapeutic modalities, including somatic, cognitive, and attachment-based approaches, depending on your specific needs. I enjoy working with diverse populations of all ages. I am also a certified mind-body eating coach and hold certificates in energy medicine.
