What is EMDR?
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy approach specifically designed to help the brain process and heal from traumatic or distressing memories. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements — to help the brain reprocess memories that have gotten "stuck," reducing the emotional charge they carry.
Originally developed for PTSD, EMDR is now widely used for a broad range of experiences: single-incident trauma, childhood trauma, anxiety, phobias, grief, and distressing memories that talk therapy alone hasn't fully resolved.
How does it work?
Unlike traditional talk therapy that relies primarily on verbal processing, EMDR works with how the brain naturally stores and processes memory. When something is deeply distressing, it can get "stuck," a memory that still feels emotionally raw and easily triggered, even years later. EMDR helps the brain move that memory into long-term storage the way it processes ordinary experiences, remembered, but no longer emotionally overwhelming.
Sessions are structured but collaborative, and Ericka works at a pace that feels safe and manageable for each client, nothing is rushed.
