About Sonder Counseling- Telehealth and In-Person Therapy in Michigan

Sonder Counseling was founded out of the realization that every person carries a story as vivid and complex as our own.

The word Sonder captures a profound truth — that each individual is the main character in their own life, filled with dreams, fears, relationships, and meaning.

At Sonder Counseling, we honor those stories. Our licensed therapists provide compassionate, evidence-based care that helps you explore your narrative, find healing, and reconnect with yourself and others. If you’re managing anxiety, depression, trauma, borderline personality disorder, relationship issues, addiction, grief, stress management, low self esteem, communication struggles, or feeling stuck, we can help.

We offer convenient online therapy in Michigan and in-person therapy in Troy and Detroit, Michigan.

Headshot of Amber Doody, DBT and Trauma Therapist

Specialties: Trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder, Addiction

Hello! My name is Amber (She/Her)

I am a clinical social worker, black belt, and nature lover.

I value sharing a nonjudgmental, open space with you while you unpack some of the deepest parts of your mind. I want you to trust that you do not have to face pain or fear on your own and know that the person sitting across from you is just as human as you are. I value building a genuine relationship with the people that I work with, filled with honesty, empathy, humor, and openness.

I have experience providing Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to individuals who struggle with emotion dysregulation, behavioral impulsivity, and trauma-related symptoms. I additionally have experience addressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationship issues.

I am looking forward to connecting with you and sharing this journey together!

Headshot of Ashley Bloom, CBT and Anxiety Therapist

Specialties: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma

Hey! I’m Ashley (She/Her)

I am a Professional counselor, amateur yogi, mom of a high energy toddler, and avid reader (when possible!).

My goal as a counselor is to help you understand and overcome anxiety related to perfectionism, burnout, imposter syndrome, and overall dysregulation from managing the stress of everyday life. I want to empower you to feel more like yourself again. I get especially excited about the neuroscience behind how our brains form patterns and, more importantly, how we can gently change those patterns over time. I believe that understanding the “why” behind your thoughts and behaviors often brings relief, clarity, and hope.

My approach is holistic and practical, recognizing that healing happens not just in the mind, but in the body too. Stress, trauma, and emotions live in your nervous system, so I often incorporate various strategies alongside talk therapy to support deeper, lasting change. Through CBT, my goal is to help you feel more regulated, empowered, and connected to yourself through mind and body work.

Headshot of Fay Mannion, DBT and Bioenergetic Analysis Therapist

Specialties: Borderline Personality Disorder, Anxiety, Depression

Hi! My name is Fay (She/Her)

I am a DBT specialist, amateur painter and comedy enthusiast.

I believe healing happens best when you pay attention not just to your thoughts and emotions, but also to how your body respond to stress and trauma. My work is focused on helping people feel more grounded, supported, and truly seen. I care deeply about creating a space where you can slow down, build understanding, and develop skills that feel meaningful and sustainable for your life. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is walking alongside people as they reconnect with themselves and move toward the goals that matter most to them.

I’ve spent nearly seven years working as a trained DBT therapist on a comprehensive DBT team. I am also trained  in Prolonged Exposure trauma therapy as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I’m in the final months of my training in bioenergetic therapy, which has shaped the way I think about healing. I’m a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) and fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). I love learning ways to move physically (exercise, dance, etc.) but also appreciate finding new ways to tune into my creativity.

Headshot of Greg Welcher, CBT and Addiction Counselor

Specialties: Addiction, Anxiety, Depression

Hello! I'm Greg (He/Him)

Counselor, Dad, Admirer of Nature

You may find yourself wondering, “When will things get better?” or “Will I always feel this way?”

I've been working as a professional counselor and addiction specialist for over 30 years. I can support you if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or out of control. I want to help you reclaim your sense of independence, adapt to life’s challenges, and heal from the past. I believe deeply in our capacity for resilience and how shifting our thoughts can improve our lives.

Shaped in the Metropolis of Detroit and finding my place is now in rural Michigan, I value family, nature, animals, and the grounding simplicity of everyday life. These connections inform my approach to therapy- which centers on CBT, practical skill‑building, and strengthening what you are already doing right. My goal is to help you create meaningful change, increase your sense of well-being, and build a more satisfying and accepting relationship with yourself and your world.

Headshot of Hadley Kleinschmidt, Bioenergetic Analysis and Trauma Therapist

Specialties: Trauma, Anxiety, Depression

Hi, I’m Hadley (She/Her)

Trauma Informed Clinical Social Worker, plant lover, and fiber artist.

If you feel stuck in harmful patterns, anxiety, or disconnection from joy, we will explore the ways your body and nervous system hold emotional wounds and process trauma. Using a warm, affirming, and nonjudgmental approach, I will guide you in noticing sensations, emotions, and thoughts as pathways toward healing, nervous system regulation, and lasting change. Together, we work gently to build resilience, self-awareness, and connection to yourself and others.

Currently, I’m training in Bioenergetic Analysis, a somatic therapy that integrates movement, breath, and physical awareness to release tension and support emotional expression. I believe that people already carry deep wisdom within themselves—it just sometimes needs space and support to emerge.

In addition to therapy, I teach somatic expression classes online—if you’re interested, feel free to reach out via email.

Hi there! I’m Jess (She/Her)

I am the founder of Sonder Counseling, professional counselor, and resident goofball.

I am currently not accepting new clients to give myself time to focus on the practice. It is important to me that that each of the therapists at Sonder feels supported, understood, and nurtured. The more the therapists are supported, the better care they can give!
